Brown, black, khaki, or burgundy pants: Which color should you choose?

Idéaliste Pants: One Style, Four Winter Out colours

idéaliste Pants: brown, black, moss green, or blackcurrant

This winter, the brown pants have taken the place of black in many wardrobes, but they aren’t the only ones worth adding to yours. We’ve created four versions of our “ Idéaliste ” pants colours : brown, black, moss green, and blackcurrant. The same high-waisted, flared cut, the same Oeko-Tex®-certified cotton denim—but four completely different looks. From the softest to the boldest, here’s how to choose the color that suits you best—and, most importantly, how to wear it from the office to dinner.

Brown pants—the color of fall

Brown has replaced black in many wardrobes, and it’s easy to see why: it warms up the complexion, goes with almost anything, and looks softer than dark pants. Pair it with ecru, camel, or burgundy to stay within the warm color palette, or dare to contrast it with navy blue—a combination people rarely try but that always works.

Black pants—the ones you wear all year round

Black is always a safe bet: it goes with everything, never goes out of style, and works just as well for the office as it does for dinner. Ours has the advantage of being made of denim: less formal than tailored pants, yet dressier than raw denim jeans. It’s the perfect piece to showcase a top—a printed “shirt ” or a colorful sweater really stands out against a clean, tailored cut.

A pair of well-tailored black women's pants can be worn just as easily at the office as at a night out.

Moss-green pants: an alternative to khaki

Moss green is a softer, deeper, and more elegant shade of khaki. It adds color without ever being too loud, and it’s surprisingly easy to wear: pair it with ecru, brown, camel, and all kinds of floral prints. If you’re looking forwomen’s khaki pants thatdon’t look military, these are the ones.

Blackcurrant-colored pants: a pop of color

Blackcurrant is the boldest of the four—and the most cheerful: a deep purple, almost plum, that brightens up gray days. Wear it with an ecru top to keep it understated, or go for a full-color look to really make a statement. It’s also the only one of the four that works for a party outfit: paired with a dressy top and heels, it effortlessly replaces a dress.

The 4 colors

A high-waisted, slightly flared cut, made of denim

All four pairs of pants have the same cut: high-waisted, slightly flared legs, and a length that falls just above the shoe.

  • A high-waisted, flared cut: it elongates the silhouette and looks just as good with ankle boots as it does with heels.
  • Oeko-Tex®-certified denim cotton: the look of jeans, without the stiffness.
  • Sizes 34 through 44: the same cut in all four colors—brown, black, moss green, and blackcurrant.

The fabric retains its shape throughout the day and develops a beautiful patina over time. Check out these four pairs of pants along with the rest of our pants and skirts.

Why Does a High-Waisted Fit Make All the Difference?

A high waist doesn't just accentuate the figure—it sets the balance for the entire outfit. By sitting at the natural waist, it visually lengthens the legs, especially when paired with a flared leg that falls to the floor. That's what makes brown pants just as easy to wear as raw denim, while looking more dressy.

It's also the most comfortable fit for everyday wear: nothing slips down when you sit, and the top tucks in without creating wrinkles. A Women’s high-waisted jeans can be worn with a sweater tucked in at the front, a knotted shirt , or a cropped top.

Our tip: Stick to just one loose-fitting piece. If you're wearing brown flared pants, choose a fitted top close-fitting, and vice versa.

What should I wear with these pants?

With a printed silk " shirt "

The fluidity of silk balances the structure of denim: it's the simplest combination for a dressy outfit.

With a printed top and ballet flats

A printed top, a pair of colorful ballet flats: this outfit takes you from the office to dinner without a single change.

With a colorful wool sweater

Tucked in at the front, it accentuates the high waist and is all you need to put together a winter look. Our wool sweaters come in a variety of colours that pair well with all four pairs of pants.
